Today we can attribute their efforts to our early childhood classrooms. Montessori perfected the idea of a preparing a stimulating learning environment, having respect for the child, guiding interest, and introducing child like furniture. Malsow informed us that certain needs have to be met before learning takes place and self-actualization can be reached. His idea is the the basis for hot meals in Head Start programs and meals provided in childcare centers and public schools.

Maria Montessori is also inspiring to me. The quotes you chose are perfect for describing children in Kindergarten as well as her views on that program. You did teach me something, I did not know that she was the one to introduce child like furniture! That is fascinating!
ReplyDeleteOh how I love this quote by Abraham Maslow! This speaks to why I became a teacher. I wanted to be true to my nature. At the end of the day, I wanted to feel at peace with myself, as though I was making my contribution to the world. "Self- actualization," now I feel as though I am happy doing what I want to do.
